Many companies -- especially large and international ones -- continue to run multiple installations of the same ERP software. And many of their executives like it that way, although the infrastructure and maintenance costs quickly add up.
But the number of region-specific versions of ERP deployments in the same enterprises is beginning to drop, according to recent data collected by AMR Research. One good reason to get rid of them, AMR's Bill Swanton told NewsFactor, is that they cut into the cost savings that companies seek when deciding to install ERP systems. Up to 40 percent of the efficiencies that should be gained by making business processes uniform across departments and business units can be eaten up by various inconsistencies.
